The Benefits of Our Extra-Curricular Spaces at Eden Early Years
At Eden Early Years, we’re proud to offer more than just beautiful rooms and outdoor spaces—we also have two dedicated extra-curricular rooms designed to enhance learning, creativity and wellbeing. These carefully curated areas give our children the opportunity to explore beyond the everyday, encouraging new experiences and skills that build confidence, curiosity and joy.
The Big Room: Movement, Music and Imagination
Our Big Room is a vibrant, flexible space where children can move freely, express themselves, and take part in a wide range of creative activities.
Here, you’ll often find:
Music sessions with a variety of real instruments—from tambourines, guitars, drums to xylophones and shakers
Dancing and movement games that help develop coordination and confidence
Yoga sessions designed to support mindfulness, flexibility and emotional regulation
A huge collection of props, dress-up clothes and games to support imaginative role-play and storytelling.
This space allows children to explore sound, rhythm, movement and pretend play in a fun and open-ended environment. It’s also a fantastic way to build social skills and self-expression while supporting physical development.
The Small Room: Language, Literacy and Calm
Just next door is our Small Room, a cosy and inviting area designed to support early language, communication and literacy development - while also offering a space for calm and comfort.
In this room, you’ll find:
A wide variety of books for all ages and interests, from picture books to sensory and interactive stories
Story sacks and phonics bags to bring books and early reading concepts to life through hands-on learning
A relaxing tepee area, perfect for quiet time, small group storytelling, or one-to-one moments with a practitioner
Pretend play resources, like a tea set and pizza maker, to inspire conversation, collaboration and imaginative play
Whether children are snuggled up with a story or role-playing with friends, the Small Room helps foster a love of language and a deep sense of security and connection.
Why These Spaces Matter
Our extra-curricular rooms enrich the daily nursery experience by providing dedicated environments for focused exploration, expressive play and quieter moments of reflection. They complement our play-based, nature-led curriculum by giving children new ways to:
Express themselves creatively
Build communication and literacy skills
Develop physical coordination and emotional balance
Explore music, rhythm, storytelling and role-play
By rotating the use of these spaces across the week, every child has the opportunity to experience them in ways that match their interests, developmental stage and emotional needs.
