Trips to Lawrence Weston Farm

At Eden Early Years, we love to give our children hands-on experiences with the world around them, and one of our favourite places to visit at the moment is the wonderful Lawrence Weston Community Farm.

Our visits to the farm are always filled with excitement and discovery. The children have had so much fun exploring the grounds and meeting the animals.

They've especially enjoyed feeding the bunnies and goats, gently offering food and watching the animals up close. It’s a fantastic way for them to build confidence, develop empathy, and understand the importance of caring for living things.

We’ve spotted a variety of animals during our visits, including goats, chickens, pigs, rabbits, and sheep! One of the highlights of these trips is the opportunity to feed the goats. The children are wonderfully gentle and patient, carefully taking turns to offer food. The goats, being quite greedy, are always eager for more—much to the children’s delight! Watching the goats come back again and again keeps everyone thoroughly entertained.

The chickens are always a highlight too. Not long ago, we hatched our very own chicks at the nursery, so seeing the chickens at the farm helped the children connect their own experience to the wider world. They were proud to talk about how the chicks they cared for had grown.

During our visits, we bring along a healthy snack of fruit and water, which we enjoy together on the benches. On more than one occasion, we’ve been lucky enough to see the sheep running past us on their way to the field.

These trips are more than just fun—they support learning in so many areas: communication, understanding the natural world, and developing social skills. Most importantly, they help nurture a sense of wonder and respect for animals and the environment.

We’re so grateful to have Lawrence Weston Farm nearby, and we look forward to many more visits in the future!
