Dancing Lessons with SGS
At Eden, we are very lucky to be located right next to the sports campus at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College. Following the success of our sports lessons last year, this term the Tadpoles enjoyed six weeks of dance sessions led by students from the college.
During these sessions, the children learned how to stretch and warm up before starting their routines. They practised simple choreography to a range of songs, including Just Can’t Wait to Be King from The Lion King, You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story, and several songs from Frozen. The Tadpoles were excited when it was time for dance each week, and many of them recognised the songs straight away. Some of the children who were a little unsure at first quickly grew in confidence and joined in beautifully by the end of the sessions.
The Tadpoles did a fantastic job learning and remembering the choreography, dancing along to their favourite songs, and finishing each session with a cool-down. The lessons took place in our large extracurricular room, which provides plenty of space for movement. The Tadpoles joined the sessions in small groups so everyone had the chance to take part and enjoy the experience. The children especially loved copying the dance moves and showing their friends what they could do!
Dance sessions also offer so many benefits for toddlers and early years children. Dancing helps to develop gross motor skills, balance and coordination, and body control.
It also supports listening and attention, as the children follow instructions and move to the rhythm of the music. Learning simple routines builds confidence and memory skills, while dancing together encourages social interaction and teamwork.
Most importantly, it gives the children a fun way to stay active and express themselves through movement. We are so proud of how well the Tadpoles took part and how much their confidence has grown over the six weeks. It has been a wonderful opportunity for the children to stay active, have fun, and express themselves through movement.
